The end of the Duvet cover struggle

One of the household chores I struggle most with is changing the duvet cover, we have a massive bed and I am tiny…

My go to solution so far was to ask the crane fly of a housemate to change the cover for me, resulting in me getting frustrated not because I struggled with the cover but because I had to ask it a gazillion times…but those days are over since I learned about the burito trick shown in this video (which you probably all already knew).

Do you also struggle with the duvet or did you already know this trick?

#IwillwearwhatIlike – the roundup

All through August I listened to my rebellious side wearing lots of stuff an almost 38-year-old shouldn’t be wearing… because #IwillwearwhatIlike.
There were times I didn’t get to wear the offending item on the day, prompting me to use older pictures or to refer to older blog posts, but I tweeted pictures of all offences I’m guilty of.

Speaking of guilt: like a true rebel I didn’t feel guilty at all, cause to be honest who are “they” to dictate what I can or cannot wear and when I can or cannot wear it.
As so many of the other participants, I only found confidence in my own style and the things I like to wear after turning thirty, when I finally managed to shrug of all the opinions of others (my mom, my sis, co-workers,..) without taking them too much at heart. And some stupid article is not going to change that, so hereby I proudly present my collection of offending items:

Graphic Tees
I guess I’ve said all there is to say on those right here… So I’ll let the picture do the talking… (there will be more graphic tees throughout the other items, since they are an important part of my style)

Leopard print
4 years ago I’ve proven my sister wrong when she claimed that leopard print is by definition tacky.
Today I’m still wearing these beauties with pride!

Anything sleeveless
The latest sleeveless addition to my wardrobe was already shown here.

Short dresses
Because it’s that time of the year again, I had to pair my short dress with loose-fitting linen trousers.

Tube tops
This is the closest thing to a boob tube, but I probably get extra points for it being a gothy graphic top.

Mini skirts (or any skirt above the knee)
I didn’t actually wear a short skirt because of reasons… but I do own several and wear them regularly, for b-day parties for example

Pony tails, long hair and scrunchies
You just have to look at all the pictures in this post to know I do/have them all, but here’s a picture of my scrunchie collection anyway…

Crop tops
I don’t have many and most of them are graphic tees, but I do on occasion wear them.

Glitter Eyeshadow
Remember how once upon a time I talked about the Yves Rocher client program… Well, most of the Eyeshadow I got that time is glittery.

It’s also that time of the year…

… during which, despite all my efforts to avoid getting stung (citronella patches and a DEET spray being the most effective ones), my legs are one big collection of mosquito bites.
To make matters more interesting worse, I’m allergic to mosquito bites, so they are all very itchy and some of them become small pustules, resulting in me no longer being able to wear my beloved skirts and dresses unless:

– they are maxi dresses or skirts (I only own 3 skirts and 1 dress that fit that description (unless you count my 3 evening gowns))

image

– I wear my loose-fitting linen pants underneath them

Those loose-fitting linen pants (of which I only own 2 pair), for the record, are also the only pants I can comfortably wear at the moment.
How’s that for a capsule wardrobe ;0)

Did you ever have to work with a restricted wardrobe because of an injury or allergy?

It’s that time of the year…

…where my ankle acts up and I can only wear flats (or kitten heels on good days).
Unlike a few years back, when I attempted to murder my toe, my collection of flats has grown quite a bit and I’m no longer restricted to these 3 strappy Le Routard numbers.

Or these 2 pairs of Mary Janes, that look exactly the same but really are a navy blue and black pair (and yes, I have at one point turned up at work wearing one of each because my blurry eyed self hadn’t noticed the difference in the morning… That ‘ll teach me to leave my shoes lying around instead of putting them back in their boxes when I take them of… Or not…)

I now have a rainbow of these very versatile beauties (and yes, I’m still too lazy to get them all out again to include the lilac pair, of which I already proven the existence right here).

And of course my silver “princess” sandals and their replacements, because the Tamaris silver strappy sandals arrived last week and they were indeed silver and strappy and a perfect fit, so my Silver Sandal Search is over (for now…)

So, even though I do miss my heels, this time around you won’t hear me complain (very much) that I don’t have any shoes to wear for the occasion…

The Silver Sandal Search

As I mentioned in my latest wishlist update, I’m looking to replace my silver “princess” sandals.

As per usual I pop in and out of shoe stores each time I pass one, but I also regularly look into all the shoe sales over at Vente Exclusive.

A little while back there was an Hypnosi sale, where I spotted a pair of sandals that ticked all the boxes: flats, silver and strappy…

So, I decided, for the very first time in my life to order shoes online…
Because they have really good return conditions and because I didn’t know the sizing of the brand I even decided to order them in two sizes.

The shoes arrived for pickup last week on Saturday and since I needed to pop out to the store for some groceries I picked them up straight away.

Great was my disappointment when they turned out to be bronze rather than silver while at the same time they were just as strappy as I like and fitted perfectly without irritating the old scars of an operation from years ago.
Oh cruel faith…

I contemplated keeping them, since I used to not like silver coloured shoes either, but in the end I decided to send them back anyway…
I know myself, if I’m not instantly wowed by a pair of shoes (or if they are not the only pair on earth that I can wear at the time), I probably won’t wear them. So I decided to continue my search…

In the mean time there is a Tamaris sale is on going at Vente Exclusive and if the below sandals fit and are as silver as they appear in the picture, my search may be at an end… To be continued somewhere in the next two weeks…

Have you ever bought shoes online? And have you ever been disappointed because they were perfect except for the colour?

That time I put my bankcard in the bank notes slot

I had been wanting to go to Yves Rocher for a while now, cause even though I found replacements for the more urgent stuff at bol.com, my shopping list was getting longer and longer.
So, when the job hunting housemate told me he had a job interview almost next door to the Ghent Zuid Shopping Center, I decided to give him a ride and pop in and out of 2 or 3 stores while he did his interview.

Apart from Yves Rocher, I wanted to visit L&L to redeem the shopping budget I won with the scratch card two weeks ago and I wanted to pop by Essenza to check out their tea selection.

First stop: Yves Rocher, where it turned out that from the fruit mask line I always use, they no longer have the pomegranate version. They still have the Cranberry version but I still had a bottle of that at home, so I searched for an alternative since I like to vary between masks because of my very sensitive skin.
I ended up buying a cream mask (a type of mask I haven’t used before) for dry skin since I couldn’t find a sensitive skin mask.

I did however find the teal coloured self sharpening eye pencil I was looking for and a teal coloured nail polish, win!

Since they didn’t have any pocket-size sunscreen or nail brushes, my next stop became Kruidvat. Where I bought a small bottle of their SF 50+ kiddie sunscreen since none of the other options had a high enough SPF factor for my ridiculously sensitive skin.
I combed out the very messy, overly warm and crowded store for a nail brush; but instead of finding one I almost fainted, which was my cue to go to the checkout counter and leave.
I did however find the brush over at Hema.

Next step L&L, but unfortunately their Ghent Zuid store is rather small and was rather crowded because of the sales, so I left almost straight away, because I started feeling faint again… not good!

By that time I really didn’t feel like popping into Essenza anymore, so in stead I chose out one of the taverns to have a drink and a bit of a read while I waited for my housemate, who was a bit worried that I looked a bit tired and extremely white by the time he arrived…

He was right about me being tired though. So tired even that down in the parking garage I managed to put my bankcard in the bank notes machine.
I managed not to panick (go me!) as the machine never really swallowed nor spit out my card. I even had the presence of mind to poke around a bit to force the machine to either swallow or spit out my card. Lucky for me it did the lather and I could continue my payment and get home (with a little stop over at Brantano to return a Skunkfunk order from over at Vente Exclusive since they size rather small).

Needless to say that I only did one thingĀ  when I got home: throw myself on the couch for a long nap.

Summermoon and the non-existing tutorials

The internet is a vast place of inspiration and “easy” tutorials for all kinds of hairdos…. If you have straight hair, that is…
If, like me, you are blessed with unruly curls (I say blessed since I really do like my unruly hair), you have a really hard time finding any suitable articles, pins,…

Sure, there are of course curly hair tutorials, but they all start from straight(ened) hair that is afterwards curled (which is exactly what hairdressers have done with my hair in the past those few times I had it done for special occasions) and to me that a) isn’t a tutorial for curly hair b) isn’t an option since that really can’t be healthy for your hair and c) doesn’t really classify as “easy”.

This however does not keep me from scrutinising articles and blog posts hoping that some suitable tutorial will come up.
Until I find one (or more) I’ll keep it simple with pony tails, a simple braid, some kind of bun or just letting it loose (preferably on unexpectedly windy days)…

Have you got trouble finding a tutorial suitable for your hair type or style? If so, have you ever made an attempt at a hairdo with the help of a tutorial?
